FTRN, organizers, sponsors, and Fair Trade supporters have brewed up a lot of actions and opportunities to help YOU make World Fair Trade Day a success.  Check out the Fair Trade actions, social networking, & media you & friends can join:

David_tentousandPaul McCartney says "World Fair Trade Day is a great idea. Fair Trade is essential for millions of people who work and struggle for survival everyday. It's all about justice and human rights. So why don't you join me in supporting World Fair Trade Day 09?"

Many high profile supporters are speaking out for WFTD!  Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Eddie Izzard, Stomp, Sigur Ros, Dudu Sarr, Suzanna Owiyo, Carlou D, The Zawose Family, Honest Jon's and Ismael Lo have shown support.  Check out details & videos on the World Fair Trade Organization's WFTD page.

If you'd like some support & advice in planning your event this year, join us on our last two WFTD09 National Conference calls - Thursday, April 9th or Tuesday, April 14th at 8pm Eastern, 5pm Pacific.  Send an email to reserve your spot.

If you can't attend an existing WFTD event, take a pledge to have a Fair Trade Break wherever you are.  Sign & forward this Pledge Action to friends to make sure you all get counted.

Join our Facebook group, and tell your friends, too!

National and local media are already looking for your event.  Tapping into the media is easier than you think! Heidi, from Fair & Green in Truckee, CA, already has media secured for WFTD. National magazines like Catholic Digest and The Lutheran, blogs like GreenLAGirl, and Web sites like Mother Earth News and Vegetarian Times will cover WFTD. Washington University Goes Bananas -
100% Fair Trade!

Washington University in St. Louis has officially switched to 100% fair trade bananas.  David_tentousandWash. U. Students for Fair Trade had been in conversation with Bon Appetit, the dining services company, all year long to try and make this goal a reality.  Recently Bon Appetit was able to pressure their local fruit supplier to deliver Fair Trade bananas to St. Louis.

If anyone within the Fair Trade movement is working on a similar campaign in their university, or thinking about it, Wash. U. Students for Fair Trade wants to make it known that it is possible and there are success stories.  According to President Julia Baskin, the organization would love to serve as a resource to help others.  They are hoping that this victory will influence other Fair Trade activists to bring Fair Trade bananas to their campuses, and pressure companies like Dole and Chiquita to provide Fair Trade options in America.
Peruvian Fair Trade Producers to Tour U.S.

Green America and Partners for Just Trade invite you to celebrate World Fair Trade Day with artisans Evangelina Pizarro and Ayde Riveros. Peru artisan tour-posterFor the first time these artisans will travel from
Peru to share their stories of how Fair Trade has radically changed their lives. On their US tour - Resonating Change: Connecting Communities through Fair Trade - Ms. Pizarro and Ms. Riveros
will give first hand accounts of how the purchase of Fair Trade products directly improves the lives of farmers and artisans in the global south.

The stories of Evangelina Pizarro and Ayde Riveros represent those of so many women around the world. Both were forced to relocate - in search of a better life earning more money or escaping violence - and despite their move, still found life difficult. Through Fair Trade they found a way forward - exporting jewelry and hand knit products, their quality of life has increased dramatically. On tour, Ms. Pizarro and Ms. Riveros will share their stories of how dignified work has provided economic stability in their lives and social stability in their communities.

The tour will travel throughout Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois during the first three weeks of May 2009. Visit  www.FairTradeTour.org to find more information.
