Event:

World Fair Trade Day Celebration
Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice, the InterReligious Task Force on Central America and Revive Store will host Cleveland’s World Fair Trade Day Celebration on Saturday, May 10th at the Independence Civic Center, 6363 Selig Drive, Independence, Ohio, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. This free event is open to the public. The event aims to educate about fair trade through speakers, displays and a fashion show. Teens across Cleveland have expressed frustration that most clothing they find at their local stores and shopping malls are made in third world sweatshops. Upon research, the students have found stores (local and on-line) which carry fair trade clothing. The World Fair Trade Day Celebration is the students’ opportunity to educate one another and promote fair trade in the Cleveland area. In addition to a fashion show with a catwalk of fair trade items, local fair trade organizations, such as Revive, Ten Thousand Villages, Equal Exchange, Heartbeats and Phoenix Coffee will be displaying and selling fair trade items from all over the world. This event is one of the ways the organizations involved advocate for peace and justice, and work toward a more just world.
