The Fair Fair
When you buy a $3 cappuccino, coffee farmers won’t even get 3 cents. A group of Los Angeles high school students are doing something to change this bitter truth. On Feb. 23, “The Fair Fair” will be held at Pilgrim School (540 S. Commonwealth Ave., Los Angeles, 90020) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to educate the community about fair trade, an often ubiquitous and confusing subject. With fair trade crafts made by artisans from around the world, international food vendors and live music, the day will not only be enlightening, but entertaining for anyone and everyone as well. The fair will feature fairly traded goods from Ten Thousand Villages, Anti-body Soap and many other organizations. Children, adults and people interested in fair trade alike will all have an enjoyable afternoon of shopping, food and fun. The Fair Fair is organized by a group of high school students called CLASS (Community Los Angeles Student Service), which organizes a community service related project each year.
