This is fascinating news, especially if it is to be credited that a Middle East nation has expressed interest. I wonder if representatives of Wales have indicated a willingness to promote this concept within applicable forums with other nations. Is there someone to contact who might provide information as to how they might promote this? What specific information exists about the process by which Scotland is proceeding? It would be good to have access to the criteria in addition to what is alluded in the above article by which Wales can claim that it is a fair trade nation.

I do know that all the coffees offered by Larry's Beans are Fair Trade and Organic, so I know anything I buy from them is not only of great quality but of the like-minded mission I believe in. With Counter Culture their coffee is good, but there mission is far from 100%. 5 direct trade coffees when I see over 20 on the shelf is actually pretty lame. And, if those "direct trade" farmers don't score 85 on the coffee I guess Counter Culture doesn't buy from them. That doesn't seem like a long term business relationship that I know people like Larry's Beans and Cooperative Coffees, who Larry's is a founding member of, engage in. They buy from the same farmers year in and year out and their coffee always tastes great!

[...] In addition to Mother’s Day, this weekend also marks the annual World Fair Trade Day. Why not treat mom to fair trade chocolate or gifts—or a good ol’ cuppa shade-grown, organic, fair trade joe? Find out about nationwide fair trade coffee breaks and other celebratory events near you on the Fair Trade Resource Network website. [...]
