International sale to support fair trade

MADISON – Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Ave., will host a one-day international handcrafted gift sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, to support living wages for artisans working in developing countries.

In addition to underwriting fair trade, shoppers will learn about 130 affiliated artisan groups in 36 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Among the holiday and year-round gift items for sale will be hand-painted ceramics, intricately woven basketry, and handmade jewelry.

Gift items will be provided through Ten Thousand Villages, a 60-year-old fair trade retailer that maintains long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans lack opportunities for stable incomes. All artisans will be paid fairly from the sale’s proceeds.

Grace Church members also will distribute information about the parish’s ongoing community, national and international outreach programs.

For information, contact sale organizer Stacy Wilde at cswilde@optonline.net, or the church office at  (973) 377-0106 .
