Bedford man brews ‘organic fair-trade’ beer

Bedford Minuteman, MA

Bedford resident Jon Cadoux has been brewing beer for 10 years as the co-founder of Peak Organic Brewing Company.

Recently, Cadoux and co-founder, Geoff Masland, released its newest brew called Espresso Amber Ale.

The Espresso Amber Ale is brewed with Maine-roasted, organic fair trade espresso in collaboration with Coffee By Design. The beer is in partnership with Transfair, a nonprofit that works to ensure that farmers and farm workers behind Fair Trade Certified goods are paid fair, above-market prices, helping to support a better life for farming families, community development and environmental stewardship. Peak Organic Espresso Ale is the first Fair Trade-certified beer brewed in the United States.

The new brew is a flavorful, robust ale with toasty notes from the espresso in the front palate that delicately compliment the sweeter notes from the malts in the back palate, according to its brewers.

“I am convinced that we are doing so well because people enjoy the pure and fresh taste,” said Cadoux. “The fact that it is healthy doesn’t hurt, but people are buying our product because they enjoy the organic taste that it provides.”

Peak Organic Brewing Company, which is located in Portland, Maine, had four beers on the market before the recent release of the espresso amber ale. Pale ale, nut brown ale, amber ale, maple oat ale and the all-new espresso amber ale can be found in stores in New England.

With Peak Organic continuing to grow, it is very possible that you could see this product expand nationally in the future, Cadoux said.

“I definitely would like to have it continue to expand, but it is going to take time,” said Cadoux. “Brewing beers has always been one of my favorite things to do. It can be a tough job because there are so many things that need to be done when you own your own business, but there is nothing that I would rather be doing.”
