[FTRN: On October 31, a series of students' letters to the editor appeared in the South China Morning Post. This one pertains to Fair Trade.]
The gap between the rich and the poor has risen dramatically over the past decades.
There is a lot that has to be done. We can help solve this problem through equal global wealth distribution.
One way is fair trade. For example, fair trade helps prevent producers from being exploited, giving them a decent wage and easing their poverty.
The products vary from food items to domestic merchandise, and hundreds of towns have been declared fair trade towns since 2000.
Although this concept is not widespread in Hong Kong yet, we can all start to buy fair-trade products in supermarkets and convenience stores.
